Paola and Isabella came over on the first day of the year to check out the studio. Paola got to make a bead! (unfortunately, I was having technical difficulties with the bead release, and her bead didn't make it; neither did most of the beads I made.)

She decided she wanted her bead to hang on one side.

And added a silver dot to it.

So this post is about the sale last Saturday/Sunday which we had at Steinbock... It was pretty cool. I got to meet all sorts of people, and donated 15% of my sales to the Brown Home, which is a shelter for the elderly.

The first day I didn't get such a good table. It was definitely perfect for my soap-selling friend, because of the location, but I didn't have enough light here for people to see the details of my glasswork.

I got to make these stands for my earrings at work with the laser cutter! :)

I sold some loose beads. Definitely bad lighting. Super blurry pictures...

This is my friend Chabela Sicz. She makes textile jewelry. She is such a pleasant friend and her work is absolutely incredible. I definitely want a collection of her necklaces. So far I have one and two hairclips. hehe... check out some pictures of her work:

Hey guys, I made these beads last week, but as I'm sure you relate... it's been wild. Anyway... take a look around.

These beads are definitely for sale but certainly not on Etsy now. Let me know if you're interested. They sell for $5 each. (the ones with protrusions go for $6)

I really love the smoothness and dimples on these beads... Good shapes!

The three beads like the one that is in focus in this next picture are actually not part of the set but they don't clash that much, so I've included them in the pictures. I'm very probably going to make a set with those colors (muted greens purples and yellows... I like the contrast and lack of it at the same time)

Meanwhile, did you see that pink line? I love it. I have about 2" left of that rod, and I'm not sure what it's called in order to get more. Any lampworkers out there reading this who can leave it in the comments? This pink is clear ... is it rubino?

I think I'm going to use these last ones for making a new banner for my Facebook page and/or Etsy page.

I made these earrings at the beach. :) What a coincidence that I chose beads that look like crystal clear water and barnacles, and seashells. ...and pearls.

I'm really liking this circle shape... Come to think of it... these earrings kind of look like rosaries.

I love the pearls. They have great shape and color, it took me a while to pick these out.

These beads are really special to me. I made them with murrini cane, a very long time ago. So long, actually... That I can't find the pictures. I'm wondering if I just couldn't get good pictures of the barnacles back then and just didn't post about it. Could it be???

I got a new camera last week and I'm still learning how to use it. I'm hoping the picture quality improves a little. The sun wasn't really on my side for the first few pictures... also I think I need to buy a better lense. Some of these are a little blurry. ...Anyway, the beads are awesome. Hope you enjoy. Yes, I went kind of on an earring frenzy. I made these beads, and before I realized I hadn't taken pictures of the single beads... I had made earrings. This is what happens when I'm on vacation, and on a mission.

I've decided to stop numbering the days. It's been over a year now. And production has come down to a whole new low. This post is meant to update, mostly about glass. In another post I'll tell you about the changes in my life. First off.. the last post was before Mari's wedding. So... Seems kind of logical to start this post with the earrings I gave Mari for her wedding.

I love the way they're so soft, and so bold, at the same time. Kind of like Mari??

Actually these next ones remind me a lot of Mari too, because of the colors. These were our favorite colors when we were little. I made these on the same day, and it was hard for me to decide which ones to give Mari, but I think I made the right decision.

Seems rather silly now to post pictures of beads on mandrels when I already have pictures of the finished products... and they are posted in the same blog entry... but bear with me. I sometimes think it's cool to see the process of things... I hope you do too.

I made these two sets for different purposes. Here are the dirty beads all scrambled up.

First, let me tell you about the warm ones.

These are for earrings.

I love the dot layer work on these donut beads.

I made this bracelet for my mom for Christmas, but as she is a clumsy little girl, she broke it, and then attempted to fix it. She lost both glass and silver beads... so here is her bracelet as she fixed it... Further down you'll see how I fixed it.

...And here is the cool set. I made these for earrings. (haven't used all of them yet)

I really like the protuberance of the clear blue!

And I REALLY like the iridescence of these beads, as well as the reactions in the purple dots in the middle, cool shapes and lines appear.

When the boyfriend is away the glass comes out and I play. I got pretty creative this Saturday, but trust me it took a lot of effort and research. (or aimless wandering on the internet... same thing)

(I'm letting the beads speak for themselves...)

Actually these are pretty cool too...

This shape was actually almost accidental but I really like it! My dad says I should make all beads with wonky shapes from now on... I think he's probably right..

I'm really proud of the colors of all of these beads...

Lampworking day #354. Wire loops and cooky birds.

I made three new earring pairs on Tuesday! Trying out something different. :) Let me know if you think these are cool! :)

Super colourful! Do they remind you of anything?

Then with these I wanted to kind of continue the same idea of the wire loop from the previous pair, but in a different way... (upside down) These are very different from one another. The loops are somewhat different sizes, for starters, and then also one has 5 beads and the other has 3. The small purple beads are garnett. Everything else is obviously sterling silver and glass.

And last but certainly not least... COOKY BIRDS!

The birds were very carefully crafted in glass! The clear cubic beads are citrine.

So full of character... these will be up on Etsy soon.

On Saturday I made 6 more purple beads.

I really like these colors in lines encased in clear... like marbles... :D

Dark core and light stripes...

Light core and what I thought would be dark stripes... the dark glass was clear, so the color washed out. Now I know.

I love layering dots on top of each other...

Nice six beads huh?

Here's the whole gang so far... still haven't made anything yet. :)

This is what the table looked like tonight when I got home from work at 8:00PM.

Maxi came to the door and greeted me with "no hay comida"... Then I came into the kitchen and found this.

Apparently my brother decided he was going to make sushi.

"This kind of explains this afternoon's conversation with my mom about what kind of wasabi to buy," I thought.

The thing is... my brother has never cooked a meal in his life. Not even salad. Not even a sandwich. Cereal is about as far as he'll get. I don't think he adds milk.

Anyway so my mom and my brother went out this afternoon and bought all of the ingredients (actually what they thought were the ingredients, they didn't even bother with algae) and materials necessary to make sushi.

And I guess as they were setting up or practicing, my mom ate all the meat for my sushi. ::facepalm::

...that's the rice maker...

Hanging out in the kitchen... with complete disregard for other people's hunger status...

My dad eventually made himself some porotos... (kidney beans) ...while we waited for more sushi rice to be made...

Finally my brother rolls up some sushi... for my dad... who's already eating his kidney beans w/ the wrong kind of rice, in the dining room. (Sorry if some pictures aren't super clear, I just refuse to use the flash)

Ay Octavio...

Octopus, avocado, and cream cheese...

well, kind of...

The horrible and impossible part was cutting it.

In the end this stuff was impossible to eat with ANY kind of eating utensil, hands, or other... the composition was awful. But the ingredients were DELICIOUS! Muuuuchhhh better than our local sushi restaurants. NO JOKE. We just need to get the rolling part down.

I KIND OF look forward to the next sushi dinner... but I'm also scared. Very, very, scared.

These were big and sloppy as well. ...I didn't even bother to make them perfectly round. They kept getting scummier and scummier. I hate the gas supply here. Tropigas, get it together!

Crazy though, the plain murrini/less beads are my favorite. lol I'm just not a big fan of clear glass, apparently.

Lampworking day #270. Requests. And... things change.

Some things don't need to change. For example, this picture:

I'm thinking that's going to keep happening. Just out of fear of losing beads, which happens quite often. Luckily this time, I didn't lose any of these.

These are all beads I made on request. It's not the funnest of jobs and definitely one of the least creative ones... but I'm not going to turn down requests like these. They are good PR. ;)

This request is for a set of small beads. The person requesting is going to use them in his own jewelry! These are going to be mailed to the States once the rest of the beads are done. (They are three sets and each has 1 focal, the focal for this set hasn't been made yet)

The big change I'm talking about is that I was in too much of a hurry to set up the white cloth to take the pictures on. Today you get my dirty hands. Sorry. I don't like being late to work and I can only do this in the morning.

This next request is for a pair earrings (That I just made before typing up this post. Hopefully the pictures will be up soon as well. I really like them. They are super sophisticated...) The earrings are for the same person who ordered these loose big-holed beads, but as a gift from a very special customer of mine ;)

And finally, these are the exact opposite case as before. This person got a pair of earrings (actually the prettiest I've made so far, in my humble opinion) for her birthday and she wanted to purchase matching beads to string on a necklace. :)

Gosh I love beads with big holes. I need to master this art...

Anyway I really hope you enjoyed these and I'm sorry that I've been lost like this lately. It has definitely been a time for change.

Hopefully I'll get back to regular programing soon! I love you guys, I do.

Just as a quick update, I've been at my new job since Jan 19th. I now work at an architectural design firm here in Panama city, at a stone's throw away from my old job (San Francisco), but seemingly light years apart in every possible sense. That being said, I can't start bragging about how happy I am at my new job because that would seem like a negative towards my old job. Let's just say they are SOOOOPER different from one another, and I was comfortable and happy at my old place of work in many ways, and now I'm really comfortable and really happy at my new job... in very different ways! hahaha

But yeah, things are going really well and I'm really excited because I get to actually design stuff now, which is what I've always wanted, and a big step in my career, and also I already made pretty good friends, and I adore my new boss. He is a great person and mentor already.

And I am SPENT! The hours are long but good. I'm having NO trouble going to sleep and LOTS of trouble getting up! LOL. You can guess the kind of toll this is taking on my lampworking, but I think when I finally get back into a routine then the lampwork will flourish again. :) (Also I'm thinking the creativity will spark up again)

So... I have been absolutely AWFUL about blogging in the past few weeks... but that doesn't mean I haven't done anything or taken pictures... I guess I'm going to try to make up for that with a few posts.

I made this necklace out of some of my favorite beads which I made a long time ago, as well as some new beads I made especially for it. I really like making these beads because they're great for practicing with lines and dot placement... which is still kind of a challenge, I'm nowhere near being an expert yet.

As always, everything is sterling silver. This is definitely a unique necklace.

Lampworking day #196. The cherry slip necklace.

I posted these beads back in June. FINALLY, I made them into a necklace. I definitely need more chain, so I can make more necklaces more often. :) I'm going to say, it's kind of a pain to make, but that's ok because the results are awesome!

Lampworking day #180. Finally beads. Finally Lauscha? Finally.

I've grown accostumed to taking these pictures in fear that they'll crack after coming off the mandrels. ...

Luckily they almost always make it now. Here's the size comparison to a dime:

These brown beads are all from Fire Lady's Lauscha hand picked rods. She was kind enough to tell me all about this special glass and teach me some gorgeous combinations such as this one. This one she calls "Milky Way" and it's just gorgeous. I threw in some Lauscha Cocoa to add a little contrast. I like this. A lot. I bet it would also look awesome with aqua or pink... That might be in the cards soon.

Do you like these? They should be up on Etsy next week hopefully.

These are definitely for earrings... These are that Lauscha Cocoa again. They are probably as dark as you see in the picture here.

I made this ring to match. I think it's too peachy for my skin tone (olive) and it would probably match nicer on a whiter or darker hand.

This ring I made KIND OF on a request. A friend asked for a ring to match the individual beads she bought and she wanted it to be very chunky. As I kept adding the glass for the ring to get bigger, I kept changing the color and I might have gotten a little carried away. I would understand if she didn't like it, but I really do. There are so many details and places to get lost in... I think it's super interesting and fun. It's like a little glass painting. :) Enjoy.

Hey. I've been pretty much gone for the past month... I'm sorry about that. Work has been ridiculous. And to top that off Octo, the love of my life, just moved to Chitré; about 250kms away from my house (thank you Google Earth) and capital city to the province of Herrera. This week is off because of Mes de la Patria... pretty much all of our important dates are in November. Today for example, is INDEPENDENCE DAY! Happy day, btw. Happy not to be a part of Colombia. :) hahaha Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Tomorrow I'm off to Chitré to hang out with Octo, until Sunday.

Lampworking day #141. Rings and stuff...

Ok I'll show you what you want to see first. lol.

This ring is mine. But I will make more! I promise.

You know you're not over my murrini and neither am I...

This is a size 4.5 ring. It fits my tiny little ring finger perfectly. Let me know in the comments what size ring you are, if you're interested in a ring.

This next one is really special because it looks very different on three different sides. Take a look.

Look at the inside texture. Hopefully makes it less slippery when wet. I've heard of people who washed their hands and the rings flew off and shattered... These are definitely not tempered glass, if you will. I've annealed them in a digitally controlled kiln under a rigid schedule, but THEY ARE STILL MADE OUT OF GLASS and should not be dropped.

It's got kind of a wonky shape...

It's a size 6.5.

And last but not least...

This one was hard to photograph. The black details are kind of iridescent...

It's also got different interest points depending on which side you're looking at.

It's huge on me!!!

Oooh ooh and then I made this one with a ring in mind. A wire one... like the one from a couple of posts back...

This glass never really comes out the same color. It's always a surprize. I wonder what I'm going to match these with...

This one cracked and made me sad. It was totally my fault though. One of them is still good though.
